The Research Assistant I works under minimal supervision and operates within the Courtois Research group at JAX-GM, supporting the EndoRISE program and lab research. This position involves human specimen processing and biobanking. The incumbent employs established laboratory procedures, standard equipment, and fundamental concepts to conduct research. Incumbents in these roles have learned the context and implications of the research program to apply and interpret theoretical knowledge necessary to conduct research in one or more scientific disciplines. The range of duties includes, but is not limited to project planning, experimental design, developing methodology, conducting procedures, modifying procedures as needed, data collection and analysis, contributing to publications and reports, and communication and instruction. Incumbents demonstrate and model effective mental concentration, visual attention, and manipulative skills. The Research Assistant I also assists in training others within or external to their assigned work area. Incumbents are required to work flexible shifts that may include evenings depending on the demands of the research, biorepository and/or laboratory operations.
