Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified Educational Interpreter to provide sign language interpreting services for a 2nd-grade student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing. The interpreter will facilitate communication between the student, teacher, and peers, ensuring full access to the classroom environment and curriculum.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken English to American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction, activities, and school events.
Support the student in understanding and engaging with academic content.
Collaborate with teachers and staff to adapt materials and instruction as needed.
Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional ethics and standards.
Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute to the development of communication strategies.
Qualifications:
Minimum Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of 4.0.
Proficiency in American Sign Language.
Ability to interpret at the elementary school level.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to professional development and ethical standards in educational interpreting.
