The Interpreter is responsible for providing foreign language interpretation and translation to AC patients and families. The employee must be able to demonstrate language proficiency and provide interpretation in an accurate, warm and caring manner, function independently, work under stressful situations, and work well with others. Responsibilities include providing timely and accurate interpretation and translation, interpreting information without bias, demonstrating proficiency in writing for translation of patient materials, educating staff on cultural issues and appropriate interpreter utilization, confirming language requests are completed, knowledge of accessing other language and hearing impaired assistance, reporting patient concerns, following up on concerns, communicating with other interpreters for scheduling and problem solving, assisting with three-way interpreting and written translation requests, entering daily patient service logs, making rounds to offer assistance, and performing other duties as assigned. Required education is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Entry level with no experience required but healthcare interpreting experience is recommended. Required certification is Interpreter Skills Assessment - Arkansas Children's; recommended certifications include Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) from CCHI or NBCMI.
