Job Description

Summary:

The position is for a Clinical Research Assistant (CRA) on grant-funded research focused on youth with acute mental health (i.e. suicide and self-injurious behavior; SSIB) and their caregivers and youth linkage to community-based mental health care after discharge from an emergency department (ED) admission for SSIB.

Responsibilities:

The CRA�s responsibilities include facilitation coordination and implementation of study procedures including recruitment of youth and families in the ED as well as implementation of an digital interventions laptop surveys computer-based assessments and on-line protocols. CRAs will be involved in the recruitment and consenting process administering assessments including device setup and data transcription. Responsibilities also include IRB maintenance data management and other research tasks assigned by study personnel. The CRA is expected to work with youth with SSIB and their caregivers (dyads) participants hospital providers and study stakeholders in the ED. CRA will also work and collaborate with study personnel and related professionals as needed to advance the scientific aims and project related goals of the ED_REaCH Lab research.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE :

BS or BA in Psychology or closely related field. 1-2 years research experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

EXPERIENCE :

  • Experience working with youth and families is highly desirable.
  • CRAs should be experienced with computer applications included word processing and excel.
  • Previous experience with human subject research is preferred.
  • Knowledge of experimental research methodology and knowledge of clinical research procedures is preferred.
  • Previous experience with statistical software (e.g. SPSS SAS) and database management (e.g. REDCAP) is desirable.
  • Attention to detail critical thinking and strong interpersonal skills are required.

This position entails joining an dynamic research team ED_REaCH Lab and sharing a strong commitment to accomplishing the goals of our lab. The CRA selected for this position will be provided with a training in youth SSIB the ED environment caregivers of youth with SSIB risk intervention and prevention research and will gain a great deal of experience working directly with youth and families. These skills will be invaluable to any candidate who wishes to pursue a career and/or advanced study in psychology medicine public health or a mental health related field. Because of the nature of the position the CRA will be trusted with much responsibility for enrolling participants and facilitating the ongoing research in accordance with established scientific protocol. Attention to detail critical thinking and strong interpersonal skills are required.

INDEPENDENT ACTION :

CRAs are expected to attend regular supervision meetings with the PI and regular lab meetings. Due to the nature of the study flexibility in scheduling is also required (e.g. willingness to occasionally work week nights and weekends to accommodate participant schedules) and the RA must provide their own transportation between research sites. However there is a shuttle that runs between Hasbro Children�s Hospital and the CORO building.

The typical CRA schedule is: Mondays and Fridays 9:30am-6:30pm and Tues through Thursdays 10:30am -7:30pm.

In general it is expected that CRAs perform work independently within Program policies and practices. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of Program policies and procedures may be required.
