Description Summary: Under the supervision of a Registered Occupational Therapist, schedules, plans and delivers prescribed occupational therapy treatments, services and home instruction to patients in such areas as daily living skills, functional mobility, neuromuscular reeducation, vocational, general musculoskeletal, energy conservation and joint protection. Utilizes orthotic and adaptive equipment and positioning devices as required. Administers and may interpret basic evaluations. Documents patient status and reports changes. Responsibilities: The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant reports directly to the department manager and/or his/her designee with clinical supervision provided by a licensed occupational therapist. Responsible for utilization and supervision of volunteers, students, and support staff relating to the provision of occupational therapy services. The occupational therapist is responsible for interpretation/implementation of physician orders, provision of safe care to customers, protection of confidential information, professional communication, economic use of time/resources, and creation of a positive work/therapy environment. Knowledgeable of the principles and practice of occupational therapy. Perform the technical skills of the certified occupational therapy assistant and be competent to operate the equipment utilized in his/her professional area. Ability to write and speak in a professional and intelligent manner and must demonstrate supervision/management skills. Must comply with the CHRISTUS Spohn Health System policies, procedures, and standards of performance. Willing to assume additional responsibilities as requested. Requirements: Education: Graduate of a school of occupational therapy that is approved by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education or the World Federation of Occupational Therapists. Experience: New graduates are accepted for this position although experience is preferred. Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications: License by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners required prior to employment.
