The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)/ Competency Evaluated Nursing Assistant (CENA) is responsible for caring for residents both physically and emotionally to enhance quality of life, including ADL and rehabilitation activities. Essential functions include participating in nursing reports, assisting residents at mealtimes, bathing, grooming, hygiene, and placement of adaptive equipment, explaining procedures, keeping residents dry, assisting with bowel and bladder functions, emptying urinary drainage bags and reporting irregularities, lifting and positioning residents safely, performing restorative and rehabilitative procedures, ensuring call lights are answered promptly, meeting residents’ personal care needs, reporting changes in condition, changing bed linens, maintaining cleanliness, assisting with appointments and social programs, problem solving within scope, providing post-mortem care, performing special nursing care duties, ensuring proper hydration and feeding, accurate documentation, participating in care conferences, admission/discharge/transfer duties, maintaining confidentiality, proper use of supplies and equipment, reporting defects, handling unusual occurrences calmly, effective communication with residents and families, following safety and care protocols especially in Dementia Care Unit, participating in training and special activities, labeling and charging ancillary items for billing, and performing other assigned duties. Competency statements include accountability, accuracy, oral and written communication, customer orientation, detail orientation, empathy, honesty/integrity, interpersonal skills, and patience. Education preferred is High School Graduate or GED. No prior experience necessary. Computer proficiency required. Must have completed a state-approved Nursing Assistant program and maintain required certifications. Other requirements include ability to assist in therapy, dementia care training for special care employees, effective communication, ability to use computer for charting, operation of specific equipment, dependability, compassion, ability to work with elderly residents and healthcare staff, participation in continuing education, and adherence to employee handbook terms.
